The main reason I loved this play so much was the fact it was different from the original "Robin Hood." In fact, I love this plotline so much better than the original. The way the cast was picked was wonderful; they seemed to know each other very well, which helped them play off each other. Some of the little details stick to your brain for days. One of these being that Robin Hood would sleep on this lyre and it would spin around slowly as he slept which to me was such a cool idea. The fight scenes were just as fun. The little pieces of fighting makes it look really cool. The last thing I loved about this play, was the way the actors made it so funny. My favorite character would have to be Pierre, just because the way he always seemed to make us laugh. This play was just a marvelous play, and I just wanted to watch it again right after it ended. The production was set in a modern
day boardwalk in Padua. They used a lot of bright, happy colors to draw
on the comedy within the show. The set had really cool aspect such as a
fortune teller but also the neon signs you would expect on a boardwalk.
In the background they used a Ferris Wheel and the outline of a roller
coaster! The acting was phenomenal, and we got to see our tour guides
from the first day in the show. The actress playing Kate was awesome and
I am so excited to see her as Stella in A Streetcar Named Desire. Every show we have seen have been amazing and I am so excited to see King Lear and The Heart of Robin Hood today.
Well, we have had our first experience in the Elizabethan theater. Some of us were freezing and some of us had so many layers on that we resembled the kid from x-mas story, "I can't put my arms down". However the play was enjoyable non the less. Cymbeline was fabulous in my opinion, I thought that the actors did a very good job of articulating the Shakespeare so that I could understand every word even from the very back of the theater.
Earlier in the week we got the privilege to talk to the head projection
designer at OSF and he talked about how he had for filled a dream to put projections on the facade surrounding the stage. we got to see a rolling ocean, forest hills, ghostly shadows. Overall an absolutely inspiring experience. Saw an AMAZING production of Cymbeline last night! I had never read this play, or seen it on stage, so I was really excited...and as usual OSF did not disappoint. The set was gorgeous and elaborate, and the director had chosen to present some of the characters in fantastical, magical way (think horns and long elf-like ears). I wish I could adequately describe the use of projections in the Elizabethan theatre.Images were projected on the huge tudor walls beside and above the enormous stage. For example, whenever the action moved from a scene in England to a scene in Italy, ocean waves splashed and lapped across the walls.Beautiful! However, one of my personal favorite aspects of the evening was watching this show sitting next to Rachel Bjork, by the end of the show we had our heads together exclaiming delightedly as every strand of the plot came together. She is a charming and intelligent young woman. What a great evening of theatre! They gave us amazing insight into the workings of the festival and their careers. We feel really blessed to have them their time with us. It's an amazing connection to the festival.
Guest Blogger: Kaleb Turner: Well the plane ride in was one of the most interesting plane rides of my life. There was a little turbulence during the plane ride, but in my opinion it was kind of fun. The hotel that we are staying at is great and the landscape is beautiful. The first play that we saw was "The Tenth Muse", I really enjoyed all of the different tech aspects and the acting was wonderful. The second play we saw was "My Fair Lady", this play was a very fun musical and it had me tapping my feet to the music. Well, we have more plays tonight and I am really looking forward to them. This is Kaleb Turner signing off. SEE YA!M
Guest Blogger: Mackenzie Williams: On Tuesday we had the pleasure to see two theatrical productions in the Bomer theatre. The theatre is a beautiful stage with vast seating. The first production we saw was a new play called "The Tenth Muse", and it was a serious tale discussing overcoming diversities and education. It was set in a Nunnery during the time of the plague. The production had unique tech elements like using flame projections. The second show we saw was the musical " My Fair Lady". The show kept you entertained the entire time. I thoroughly myself while laughing at the actors and tapping my foot to the fast tempo of the music. Today we get the pleasure to see more plays in this lovely town and i can't wait.
I'm so proud of all of you who traveled with us. It was the BEST group in many regards! NO ONE was late, not even once. I know that's what we expected but you are the first group to achieve it - not even 5 minutes of waiting, SUPER JOB. Another thing I loved was the attentiveness you showed each presenter and the excitement you showed in your faces at each space. I was very proud to be from Kalispell. Businesses commented positively on your behavior and patronage and all actors seemed to love you all the way to "Thank you Montana" at the end of Caesar. I'm curious to know your rankings, I've heard some of yours but would be curious to know the others. Here's mine: 1. Caesar 2. Willful (by the way they were really tied) 3. Measure 4. Invalid 5. It was called Julius Caesar right?
Brittanie: mhmm it sure was! i followed the story line and loved the cutting of the script. The play was very simple but exciting!!!
Emily: Oh yeah it was! And the blocking and casting was perfect! The actors broke the 4th wall which made the show even better!
Brittanie: i agree! oh hey Emily what was your favorite part of the play?
Emily: My favorite part was definitely the dream that Caesar had the night before she was murdered.
Brittanie: ohhh me too! the cool affect with the blood and the music/noises in the background made it so intense! they played it out like an actual dream! its so hard to describe how much i loved this play... it was one of those things that you had to be there to know what we're talking about.
Emily: Excatly! It was just ahhh, I loved comparing it to our Julius Caesar play in the Wolfpack Theatre. The two were surprisingly similar but also a lot different. It was really cool to see.
Brittanie: i agree! it just shows how amazing our theatre program is in our little home town of Kalispell MT! i also liked the way they set up the stage. the actors went around and interacted with the audience members before the show. if someone wouldn't have pointed that out i don't thing i would have even realized. this show like all the others taught me a lot and so i can take this all back to Glacier and teach all the other actors. what do you think Emily?
Emily: Im so excited to go back and tell all about OSF and what I've learned here. This is an experience I will never forget, it's been so amazing. But now its time for our directors workshop :)
Brittanie: thanks for reading our blog! hope you enjoyed it! see ya!
Emily: ta ta!!
Brittanie: tootles!!
Emily: Live long and prosper!
Brittanie: hasta luego!
Emily: SHOO SHOO!!
Brittanie: goodbye hahaha
Emily: Keep it real!
Brittanie: no seriously... bye.Ivanna Fritzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04664900769421663219noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2687095231932178712.post-15912224983695166442011-09-30T07:58:00.000-07:002011-09-30T08:38:36.840-07:00OSF Thursday: Desirae FauskeAs a whole, I believe Thursday was the favorite day for the peers in my group, as well as my own. We saw the matinee of Julius Caesar and evening performance of Pirates of Penzance (coincidentally, I had seen both of these shows twice beforehand, but these productions were by far the best I have seen). We took a design workshop in the morning, which was very helpful for me especially, as I plan on directing a show at Flathead next year. I believe having the design process laid out for me was extremely positive on my education for the upcoming year. As for the shows, both were completely exquisite. Julius Caesar had been, as according to the stage manager, "seeing the cast with their pants down." There was no set previously built, and all set was built by the actors during the duration of the show. Caesar was played by a woman, which was worlds better than I had expected. She had so much power behind her portrayal; I was surprised, but I felt she was more powerful than the men I have seen in the role. In addition, rather than turning Calpurnia into Caesar's husband, Mark Anthony was the one to plead Caesar to not go to the senate meeting. The two aspects added a line of subtext that Caesar was well aware that she was a woman in power, which is fairly rare. Not having a husband made me think of Caesar as a Virgin Queen of sorts. It added so much backstory behind the character.
As for Pirates, it was so much fun. As I said, I've seen the show twice before, but this was so diverse from the others that I almost forgot what show I had been watching. Our leading lady was an understudy, we had seen her in The Imaginary Invalid Tuesday night. Her performance of Mabel was so different from Angelique, and she acted and sang beautifully, I kept thinking I had no idea how she was not cast as Mabel in the first place. The costumes were so gorgeous, as well. The cast was a complete group of powerhouses, and I was blown away. Every time a song began I got a grin and just felt like I had been seeing it for the first time. Something that made the audience wake up every so often was the fact that a good portion of the songs had a tune of a contemporary song spliced into the score. We had Frederic wishing away his ugly old maid to the tune of 'I Wanna Know What Love Is'. Basically, both shows were complete opposites of the other, but both were flawless in their own sense.Ivanna Fritzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04664900769421663219noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2687095231932178712.post-66500278239957254112011-09-30T07:54:00.001-07:002011-09-30T07:54:46.479-07:00OSF 2011Ivanna Fritzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04664900769421663219noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2687095231932178712.post-44224152821000628902011-09-30T07:27:00.000-07:002011-09-30T07:27:33.618-07:00OSF 2011Ivanna Fritzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04664900769421663219noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2687095231932178712.post-46365164095230879402011-09-29T08:56:00.000-07:002011-09-29T09:18:43.175-07:00OSF Wednesday Afternoon- Cody MartinyWednesday afternoon we watched "The African Company Presents Richard the Third". The set looked fairly unimpressive at first, but it's ability to move and fit the scene was awesome. The acting was very good, and the way they could portray muted happiness so well, and still let you see the underlying tension that came from suppression was very impressive. All in all, it was a great show.Ivanna Fritzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04664900769421663219noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2687095231932178712.post-24945191909593246622011-09-29T08:50:00.000-07:002011-09-29T09:14:46.894-07:00OSF Wednesday: Elijah Katchur"The African Company presents: King Richard The third." I found it amazing to watch this show, at the beginning, I thought it was interesting the way it was presented, was not as I expected. Then as it developed further into the show and it became more complex, so did the characters. I'm intrigued by how powerful, and how much truth there was in their voices. That is something that I want to develop in ALL of my characters at Flathead. It's such an amazing opportunity to see this and any of these shows. I'm truly inspired by the quality of acting, and the truth within every character. This is the highlight of my year, and even my whole high school journey.Ivanna Fritzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04664900769421663219noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2687095231932178712.post-63110362974990322362011-09-29T08:04:00.000-07:002011-09-29T08:14:22.239-07:00OSF Wednesday: Brianna KretskeWow, what a day yesterday! We started the morning with an acting workshop emphasizing the power of words, and I now have a new respect for Shakespeare. He is credited with inventing 1,700 words, and I had trouble inventing just one. Our instructors were incredibly fun and presented us with entirely new ways to look at Shakespeare's words. We did lots of exercises like tongue twisters and rhymes that let us get really creative, and we also examinded several passages from plays like "Julius Ceasar", "Love's Labor's Lost", and "Henry IV Part II". So, those of you who are daunted by Old English, fear not! Shakespeare used over 30,000 words in his entire collection of works, but with a little fun exercises and practice, you'll become a pro at comprehending all of them.Ivanna Fritzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04664900769421663219noreply@blogger.com0
